Frequently Asked Questions: Juvederm®

Juvederm is a smooth, gel dermal filler made of hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance in the skin that can hold up to 40 times its weight in water.  It is injected into the skin and instantly smooths away the wrinkles around your mouth and nose.


What does a treatment consist of?

A Juvederm treatment consists of a few injections just under the surface of the skin around the wrinkles by your nose and mouth.  Some people choose to received numbing cream or a dental block just prior to treatment to make it more comfortable.


How quickly will I see a difference and how long will the results last?

The results are immediate and they will last up to a year, and even longer in some patients.


What is the difference between Juvederm Ultra and Juvederm Ultra Plus?

Juvederm Ultra Plus is 30% thicker than Juvederm Ultra so it is better for deeper lines and wrinkles.  Dr. Silvers will determine which is better for you during your consultation.


Is there anything that I need to tell my doctor?

It is important to tell the doctor if you have any diseases or take any medications that make you prone to bleeding and/or bruising.


What are the possible side effects of a Juvederm treatment?

Juvederm injectable gel is generally well tolerated.  Side effects associated with the injection include localized discomfort, inflammation, tenderness, and/or bleeding or bruising.  Other side effects are very rare.
